Tommy Seebach who during the 70s/ 80s became Denmark's one and only
King of Schlager- During his long career he released over 20 albums
and sold millions of albums & singles in Scandinavia. He was a renowned producer
for the lable EMI Denmark.
..back then- You had to own one of thoses cane chairs!!
Tommy found time to form the Pop 80's band Hot eyes (Kirsten & Soren) who managed to be the only band
to sing in Eurovision Song Contest no less than 3 times- each time for Denmark
1984 - Det' lige det (Music: Søren Siggard Text: Keld Heick ) finishing 4th in Eurovision Song Contest

1987 - Farvel og Tak (Siggard, Heick) finishing 5th in Dansk MGP
Meanwhile Tommy Seebach had his own breakthough back in 1977 with a hit album 'Tommygum'
he followed this up with his own European big hit 'Disco Tango' which became the first of
three entry's for Eurovision Song Contest glory by Tommy himself once as a duet with Debbie Cameron. During this time Tommy wrote and performed no less than 8 entries for Dansk MGP as well as becoming an 3 time winner. Here they all are:
1979 - Disco Tango (Music: Tommy Seebach Text: Keld Heick ) won MGP- finished 6th in Eurovision

1993 - Under stjernerne på himlen ( Seebach, Heick )-finished 22nd in Eurovision
The sad end to the 'Tommy's Schlager Story' is he is no longer with us he died in March 2003. As known problems with alcoholism lead to his death at only 53 from a heart attack at amusement park 'Bakken'
Yet musically he does live on with recent success of one of his son's Rasmus Seeback riding high in the Swedish top ten in 2010
Eda-InesEtti is from Haapsalu, Estonia - she is a Big celebrity in her homeland, and known mainly in scandinavia due to her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.
In 2000, Ines sung her own song “Once in a Lifetime” she had been tipped for what would have been a famous victory, but in the end came 4th. As Denmark finished flying the wings of victory that year.
In a strange twist of fate, one of Ines own backing singers, Tanel Padar, together with Dave Benton represented Estonia the next year-this time the duo stormed to victory with a song “Everybody”, Estonia then became the 1st former Eastern Bloc country to stage the Eurovision Song Contest in 2002. Then in 2003 there seemed every chance that Ines would once again be Estonia’s artist for Eurovision, as she had reportedly been lined up to sing “Runaway”, in Eurolaul, the Estonian national selection contest for Eurovision.
Then she pulled out at the last moment, apparently concluding that one appearance at the Eurovision was enough!. Given the unfortunate timing, an experienced Swedish star, Anna Sahlene, took her place and performed “Runaway” the song became the Eurolaul winner. The song went on to finish in 3th place for Estonia.
Its rather surprising that Ines has since gone on to be known in her homeland as ‘Miss Eurovision’ - mainly from taking on the role of spokeswoman during the voting procedure, to becoming a host presenter of Eurolaul back in 2005.
Ines’s follow-up album sung in Estonian, '15 magamata ööd', was a huge success back in 2004. The title-track of the record brought her the second “Female Artist of the Year” at the Estonian Music Awards.
Ines’ in 2005 formed her own band to produce her next stab at Eurovision glory, the wonderful song “Iseendale”. The song came a close second to the winner “Through My Window”, performed by the Sandra Oxenryd. “Iseendale” . Ines’ third Eurolaul entry was the song entitled “In Good and Bad” in Eurolaul 2007, the song failed to make the grade for Eurovision 2007. Yet her new album 'Kustutame vead' earned another nomination for the Female Artist of the Year.
Ines today maintains a high profile with the Estonian public. Martin Saar - a controversial young New York artist, who remained her boyfreind for 3 years.
In 2008, the golden couple of the Estonia media' broke up. Since then Ines has found new love in a Portuguese guy called Francesco. Currently Ines is working on her fifth studio album set to release in summer or later this year.
We are hoping this may well bring us a new song set for Schlager Glory- and Ines the girl who gave us Once in a Lifetime' now enters our Euro-Schlager Hall of Fame ...

'Kom Hem' is perhapes one of the stand out tracks from dansband Barbados. This single was a follow up to Magnus Carlsson's Melodifestivalen debut enty 'Se Mig' with the band in 2000. Then later the CD was released with the title track 'Kom Hem' + this has been quoted as being one of Magnus Carlsson personal favourite tracks along with 'Rosalita' The vid is just schlager-tastic and a 80's Party revival .. Luv it from the cut-off jeans to the shinny shirts! Its called 'Come Home'- and then in the end we find 'who' he is waiting for to return home?
Magnus Carlsson grew up in Fristad outside Borås and has now taken part in Mf for an amazing seven times! He rose to fame as the lead vocalist with dansband Barbados. Magnus lead the band during their most successful years from 1992 up until December 2002. Barbados performed in Melodifestivalen three times, twice coming 2nd with 'Se mig' in 2000 & 'Allt som jag ser' in 2001 Again in 2002, with their Hit 'Världen utanför' coming 4th that year Magnus Carlsson officially became a member of Alcazar in January 2003. Joining forces with his partner at the time, Andreas Lundstedt - Alcazar had a mega Hit with 'Not a Sinner, nor a saint' in Melodifestivalen 2003 finishing 3th. The tune became one of the most famous favourite Mf Hits with the swedes. Alcazar following this went on to great international success with 'This is the world we live in' and others. In 2005 they came back to Mf with 'Alcastar' once again finishing in 3 rd place- it seems we could all become a Alcastar...according to the No.1- Yet that autumn the band took a break and the 4-piece never came back together again! On February 25, 2006 Magnus participated in Melodifestival Semi-Final in Karlstad with the song 'Lev livet' (Living Life) Written by Anders Glenmark & Niklas Strömstedt and finished 8th in the Globen final. In Melodifestivalen 2007, Magnus sung "Live Forever" just missed out on going direct to Globen yet became one of his biggest +Best Hits! . Magnus has focused on his solo career and Album 'Live Forever' proved him to be a great singer in his own right. Magnus we salute you as a real Schlager Hero in the true Schlager tradition.. May Manus live forever in Schlager wonderland....

Hanne Krogh Sundbø was only 14 years old when she recorded her first record in 1970. The next year Hanne
won Melodi Grand Prix in Norway. This took her to Eurovision Song Contest 1971 in Dublin, when she hoped to follow in Dana's (all kind of everything) footsteps from the previous year.
Singing a song 'Lyyken Er' ('Happiness is') see this a fantastic clip of this song, she came in 17th place. Next Hanne started up her acting career for a few years, up until 1978 when she returned to the studio to make her debut LP 'Hanne Krough' (see LP cover pic- even starting early' the flanno' shirt craze of late 80's!)
In 1984 she joined forces with Elisabeth Andreasson to form 'Bobbysocks' a new swing harmony pop duo. They sang 'La det swinge' in Melodi Grand Prix & went on to take home Norway's first ever Eurovision Song Contest victory of 1985. Now Bobbysocks are rumoured to make a comeback in Oslo 2010- Fingers crossed meanwhile 'Bobbysocks'
are our Schlager Hero's 6 from both Norway & Sweden- Hope to see the girls back together soon..
Carola Häggkvisther breakthough came at the age of 8, she won a Tv talent Contest Magasin TV show (Click to see Tv clip)
during this Tv broardcast she met Abba's manager Stig Anderson. He was amazed by the talented
youngster.
Yet her big breakthough came in 1983 when Carola was offered "Främling" wrote by Lasse Holm to sing in Melodifestivalen 1983- this song
went on to win & take Carola to ESC in Munchen. This contest was watched by 84% of the population at the time!
The song came 3rd that year and was also the title of her huge selling debut album in Sweden.
Carola became no stranger to Melodifestivalen coming 2nd in 1990 with "Mitt i ett aventyr" The following year she returned to win Eurovision Song Contest in 1991 with 'Captured by a Lovestorm' after a draw in the final votes with France. As Sweden won with more 12 points
Carola came back to Eurovision in 2006 with perhapes her best known entry "Evighet" which finished 5th. She almost entered Melodifestivalen in 2003 with a song called 'Autumn Leaf' it qualified for Mf yet it was not to be and Carola did not sing this new ballad. Yet it did become one of her best known hits "När löven faller" we found this wonderful Live performance of this lost entry, it gives us idea of how carola would have looked & sounded at Eurovision 2003 if the song won. Carola performed in Moscow 2009 (check out previous posts for a fab interview she gave) Carola we pay tribute to you- as a most worthy Schlager Hero-and please, please come back to Melodifestivalen very soon ..

I stumbled upon this 80'S Video Gem from Carola' the single was released from a whole English Album she recorded with the Bee Gees. Recorded in 1985-6 the Album 'Runaway' was huge in Sweden & Norway.
The city of Stockholm architect Gert Wingårdhsaid 'I was inspired by Charlotte Perrell's Mic when she sang "Hero" in Mf 2008. It was so wonderful.
The glittering mic was the opening scene for 'Hero' performed & won by Charlotte in Mf 2008. Now its a schlager tribute! This is a 120 meter tall hotel to be built in Kista outside Stockholm custom made for International Fairs. The facade is composed of reflective glass.
Plus the hotel lights up at night it will be seen clearly on the drive out from the airport click here to see more fabulous pics
Fredrik Kempe is the songwriter of 'La Voix' and no stranger to Mf. He first sang his own song ' Finally' back in Melodifestivalen 2004, this song was a tribute to Benny Andersson. In 2005 he sang with Sanna Neilsson "Du och jag mot varlden" this finished 8 th in Mf. Fredrik went on to have a another big hit with 'Vincero' ( see Vid) in fact you maybe thinking this is almost La Voix part 2 yet this is a famous opera classic. I recently discovered his fantastic video for the tune I already luv. Here we can see, even if Marlena has a bad-hair day in Moscow Fredrik could easily transform from songwriter to opera singer ! Its a great version from the swedish mastro who has wrote the Mf winner two years in a row, as well as 'Cara Mia' & 'Vagar du Vager jag'' (Sanna Nielsen 2007) We can be assured he will bring us many more classics to the Mf stage. He is now our 2nd 'Schlager Hero'
