It's not all about winning ...one year on Didrik Solli-Tangen


Its always good to reflect on previous Eurovision hopefuls, who may not win - yet can still leave a long standing impression. The hosts of Eurovision 2010- Norway, for the second year running brought us - one of the cutest guys to grace the Eurovision stage + this time one amazing opera vocalist.

Didrik Solli-Tangen sang last year's 'My Heart is yours' wrote by Fredrik Kempe who normally writes pop-stompers alone, this time Fredrik joined forces with Hanne Sorvaag ( who sang/wrote 'You're like melody' in MGP 2011 ) however on the Eurovision final night in Oslo Didrik & other Eurovision fan-favourite Iceland's Hera Bjork. Somehow both singers did not pull in the votes required, finishing in 19th & 20th place. Both gave winning performances, and have not been forgotten one year later. Didrik did show a profession response to his disapointing result, and just recently has brought out - a debut pop album called 'Guilty Pleasures' this has turned out to be one of the best follow-up Euro albums of 2010. Normally an opera performer, this was Didrik's first venture into mainstream pop- Just check out 'cold words' and 'You' plus the lead- single 'Best Kept secret' that he certainly is...thanks Norway

H.E.L.L.O from Latvia's Lauris Reiniks


All the eurovision songs have been choosen and selected in preparation for Dusseldorf, it's always good to look at the one's that got away- or missed out in the National selections that still take place in some countries in Europe. Over in Latvia we found someone we recognised with Lauris.

If we can cast our mind back to Eurovision 2003! you may remember a pop trio from Latvia F.L.Y who song 'Hello from Mars' that was a favourite of mine from back then. Lauris was one of the main vocalist in F.L.Y. and since then has been busy becoming a big name in Latvia-Last year Lauris had a european hit With 'Es Skrienu' or in italian transalted to Correro da te (check out his great soap-Video) This track would have been a perfect eurovision song!

However for 2011 Lauris wrote a equally great song called
Banjo Laura in Eirodziesma 2011 contest he easily qualified for the final- and although getting top televote scores. His song lost out to Musiqq's 'Angel in Disguise' in the Top 3 super-final,
perhapes due to 'Laura- having abit much of the Fairytale/Rybak 2009 -factor.

Sweden's Offical Sales Chart List- during Globen week

This is the Top 20 sales chart (thanks to 'Hitparad.se') in sweden- normally Melodifestivalen tracks
take over the charts in a big way- plus its interesting to see how the tunes sell. Even the songs that failed to make Globen. At the present Loreen gets the prize in the second change league with 'My heart is refusing Me' straight in at No; 9. This track that has some terrific dance mixes as well. Swingfly Danny & Eric are the only other chart Top 10 entries. Yet compared to back in 2010- when 8 songs took over the top 10, leaving just 2 non-Mf tracks on the chart, (in the follow-up week til Globen final). This may all change next week- as the post-globen music buyers take a hold of the national chart
